I’ve been pondering Vickie’s reflections on “what are you taking in?” as I see the bombardment of media, end-time opinions, and political tactics that can be wearing and discouraging. It is easy to forget that God has given us a “good treasure” and from that treasure, Life springs forth and revives those around us. In 1770, a fellow named Edmund Burke wrote the House of Commons, “when bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one…” He must have been seeing troubling times when he wrote that, and feared that evil would “win the day”. Jesus came into an era of troubling times, as well. He taught, “The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil…”

We who have the “good treasure” possess an amazing tool to use on behalf of advancing His Goodness, His Kingdom; and when we share it liberally, joyfully, in all things pointing to the Giver of the Good Treasure so that others may desire it – we are mighty warriors. For when others embrace Jesus and the Kingdom of God, they are no longer aligned with evil. God greets more kids, the enemy loses minions. Burke’s encouragement to “associate” was wise; for in our association with one another we “consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds.” Lastly, when we are intertwined with each other as well as with Jesus, we find ourself as one of three cords – and “a cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.”

What should we be taking in? As much of Him as we can – Treasure, Fortress, Shield, Guide, Counselor, Lover of my soul, the Lighter of my path. (Deb)
